Driver Selection and Control
Driver selection, training and control will improve operating costs if done properly.

52Basic checks that you normally need to carry out are listed below

    a) Driver ability
    b) License validity
    c) Colour blindness
    d) Spatial perception
    e) Speed and distance awareness
    f) Reaction speeds
    g) Psychological testing etc, etc

These checks should be used for new drivers and after accident testing.

Minimum standards must be set for selection including written and oral testing.

Driver control will involve matters such as: -

    a) Union recognition
    b) Dress standards
    c) Knowledge of operating procedures
    d) Driving incentives e.g. accident free kms
    e) Penalty system
    f) Internal training procedures on driving and vehicles
    g) Operations/maintenance

CORRECT UTILISATION 0F FLEET MANAGEMENT PRINCIPLES WILL SIMPLIFY THE COMPLEX TASKS FACING TODAY'S FLEET MANAGER.
